about us

The Miami Misfitz is an all treble a cappella group from Miami (Ohio) University. The group was founded in 2001 by six friends who were passionate about making music together with only their voices. The group currently has 14 members and over the years has grown a network of over 110 alumni. Our members have diverse areas of study and come from a variety of musical backgrounds, but we join together to create music and life-long friendships.

Dressed in their traditional black dresses and red heels, the Misfitz perform a variety of music from rock to pop to country to R&B and much more. Recently, we’ve tried our hand in electronic music as well as some good ol’ fashioned jazz and swing tunes. The Misfitz find strength in a fierce and powerful sound paired with dynamic arrangements that lend themselves perfectly to the intimate connection the group has with the music and with each other.

The Misfitz placed in the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella in 2006 and 2007, hosted the competition in 2008 where we finished in 3rd place, and earned Best Soloist, Best Choreography, and Best Vocal Percussion in 2009. We competed again for the first time in eight years in the spring of 2017. In February 2018, we were nominated for Best Female Collegiate Album for the CASA Contemporary A Cappella Recording awards for our album Soul Revival.

As of 2025,
The Misfitz have created an amazing group of girls that are kind, generous, humble, authentic, friends to all, and have a love for singing. This love and special bond have awarded them the 'Best Media Award' 3 years in a row from Miami University's Center for Student Engagement, Activities and Leadership SEAL Awards.
